Metal fabricators Brendan Hercus and John Cooper were presented with certificates of thanks at the Bendigo Police Station this morning.
The pair stopped to assist Leading Senior Constable Peter Dyer after an arrest turned ugly on the side of Allies Road, near the Calder Highway.
Both men said they didn’t think before stopping the car to help out.
Inspector Edwards said it was “comforting” to know there were still people happy to give the police a hand.
“Thankfully from our perspective it’s the sort of thing that doesn’t happen often but we’re lucky that when it does you get people like this helping you out,” he said.
