LVFNL coaches give Mitiamo little to no hope of denying Bridgewater a record-breaking seventh-straight flag on Saturday.
Coaches of the seven clubs not involved in the grand final at Pyramid Hill were unanimous in declaring the Mean Machine will win the decider by a big margin.
“Bridgewater beat them by 10 goals a couple of weeks ago and they had four of the their best players on the sidelines, who will come back in this week,’’ Pyramid Hill coach Brad Fawcett said.
“I expect Bridgewater will come out and go whack early and kill the contest. I can’t see an upset on the cards.”
The Mean Machine are unbeaten this year, including three wins over Mitiamo by margins of 23, 63 and 59 points.
Newbridge coach Matt Dillon said Bridgewater’s depth would be too much for the Superoos to handle.
“From what I’ve seen I can’t see Mitiamo winning,’’ Dillon said.
“Bridgewater is quicker and fitter across the board and they look a bit stronger all over the park. Bridgewater’s depth is where they’ll win it. Mitiamo has four or five really top players, but Bridgewater’s depth is superior and that’s what will be the difference.”
Bears-Lagoon Serpentine coach Greg Gadsden echoed Dillon’s thoughts.
“For Mitiamo to win, Harry Maddern would have to have a big day out and their midfield would need to have a big day.’’ Gadsden said. “Unless Miti gets right on top in the middle, I can’t see them kicking a big enough score to trouble Bridgewater.”
Calivil United coach Anthony Dennis said the Superoos’ midfield group was the key to the game.
“If Mitiamo doesn’t play at its best then Bridgewater will win by eight to 10 goals,’’ Dennis said.
“Mitiamo’s midfield is as good as Bridgewater’s midfield, so if they can get on top in the middle of the ground it might be an interesting game.”
Inglewood assistant coach Mick Delaney said Bridgewater’s depth would “blow the Superoos away in the second half”.
YCW coach Daniel Francis expected the Mean Machine to win, but was more positive about the Superoos’ chances.
“Grand finals are strange things… if Miti gets their back up and they’re in the game in the second half, you just never know,’’ Francis said.
