Greens candidate Tim Bardsley and his mother and fellow Greens candidate Wendy Radford want a master plan for the site enacted.
“The plan was finalised in 2008 and accepted by council and was funded significantly in the first year,” Mr Bardsley said.
“But then the council withdrew funding and it hasn’t been reinstated.
“I think it would be economical to use the plans we’ve got and see that through to fruition.”
The master plan contains tree and grass planting, landscaping, installation of toilets and play spaces and connecting the park with the creek.
About 30 people recently met at the park to discuss the issue. Ms Radford said it was a project that started but “just vanished”.
“They want some action on the development of the park as a play space and recreation space,” she said.
“They want it developed, not just left as a paddock.
“There would probably need to be some further consultation with the community about the development.”
Ms Radford said people who attended the recent meeting wanted to see the park left as a passive recreation area with walking paths and play areas.
“Most people didn’t want too much planning because they want it to be an open area that’s regularly mown,” she said.
The Wolstencroft Area Action Group has advocated for the plans to be implemented.
