Hamish Johnson won a gold medal for individual kata and a silver in team kata, while David Nicholas scored silver medals for individual and team katas.
Johnson and Nicholas train under the guidance of Kokoro Kai Karate's Allan Guymer, who operates dojos in Goornong and Lockwood.
He is one of three founders of the Kokoro Kai Karate, together with Peter Jackson, whose dojos are based in Maryborough and Dunolly, and New South Wales-based Rob Graham.
The Maryborough tournament was the first round of a three round tournament also involving club martial artists from Funakoshi in Warrnambool and Seishikan in Ballarat.
More than 130 participants entered the tournament at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre.
They came from Bendigo, Ballarat, Melbourne, Warrnambool, Mount Gambier and parts of New South Wales.
Kokoro Kai offers two types of karate, including traditional goju karate, which is what is focussed on at weekly training sessions.
The club also offers sport karate as an extra, for those students who want to compete.
The Lockwood dojo is open on Mondays and Thursdays, while students in Goornong train on Tuesdays.
Classes are suitable for primary school aged children, through to adults of all ages.
