Bushfire experts have also warned that west and south Gippsland, and parts of the state's central highlands "could see rapidly escalating fire behaviour later in summer" because of dry conditions combined with a high probability of above average temperatures over coming months.
The warnings are contained in the latest "Southern Australia Seasonal Bushfire Outlook 2016", released on Wednesday by the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC (Co-operative Research Centre).
Most of East Gippsland however, faces a below normal fire potential for the rest of 2016. "It has received very much above average rain in the short and long term, and the temperature outlook is not likely to support strong late spring drying in the forests," the report said.
