The Roos proved too strong for Castlemaine in their round 18 clash on Saturday night, but the 69-point margin wasn’t enough for Flat to jump Kyneton into fifth spot.
The Roos finished 4.22 per cent behind the Tigers. That small percentage margin could be put down to the three heavy defeats the Roos copped in the previous three weeks.
The victory was highlighted by the form of key forwards Trent McInnes and Cam Rinaldi. They kicked 11 goals between them with McInnes, in particular, outstanding. Hunter Lloyd and Lance Oswald gave the Roos plenty of drive.
Tommy Horne, James O’Brien and Jarryd Graham were best for the Pies, who endured a disappointing end to the season.
The match was the final game in charge for respective coaches Jason Stevens (Kangaroo Flat) and Shane Robertson (Castlemaine).
