WEDDERBURN residents now have 24-hour ambulance coverage, following years of requests for a permanent service.
The town is being serviced by 12 ambulance community officers, who have been trained in emergency care, and now has its own ambulance.
Wedderburn had a volunteer community response team, but the officers have additional skills to provide advanced first aid and emergency care, and can transport patients to hospital when required.
Previously, an ambulance had to come from either Charlton or Inglewood, both about 30km away.
The new officers, some of whom were part of the community response team, were trained by the paramedic community support co-ordinator, who will continue to support the team.
“Wedderburn locals can now have the peace of mind that emergency care is close by when they need it most – all day, every day,” ambulance services minister Jill Hennessy said.
