The 19.23 (137) to 9.6 (60) win was the Bloods’ third in a row and fifth for 2016 – one more than their 2015 total.
“It’s the first time since 2013 the club has won three games in a row, so it’s a good way to finish and we can look forward to next year,’’ South Bendigo coach Brady Childs said.
The Bloods didn’t have it their own way. The Bloods only led by two points at quarter-time and by four goals at half-time.
“Maryborough’s pressure and tackling was really good in the first and we probably didn’t respect them enough,’’ Childs said. “In the second half we got our pressure back to where it should have been and got ourselves going.”
Alex Hywood dominated across half-forward for the Bloods, while ruckman Kieran Strachan and midfielder Blair Whelan also impressed.
Matt Johnston, Cam Skinner and Justin Laird were best for the Magpies.
