Amazing place that Queensland. In recent times the northern state has produced politicians such as Bob Katter, Clive Palmer, Glenn Lazarus and a reborn Pauline Hansen. They have espoused, and continue to espouse, political tripe that we are meant to swallow. Must be the extra hours of sunlight that upsets the human equilibrium. And when it comes to agriculture the thought process can also be flawed.

A Queensland dairy farmer said in a recent ABC interview that back in the 1940s there was 30,000 dairy farmers in Queensland, which is down to 420 now and a third of Queensland's bottled milk has to be imported. Goodness gracious, they continue to drink bottled milk in the north and it is imported, which means it comes from those dastardly southern states. The most concerning feature of this statement was that it was not challenged by the interviewer. One has to wonder what happened to the bullocks and draught horses. A story for another day.
Milking it
Senator Xenophon has called for the reintroduction of the school milk program to provide funds for the dairy industry. Historically the program was introduced to provide nutrition, however, in fact it turned many away. The milk was warm and in some cases on the point of being off. It is doubtful that the dairy farmers saw any return. The good senator needs to realise that his brain snap should take into account the milk now being consumed by youth is UHT processed and contains large amounts of flavour and sugar. The only winners would be the bureaucracy overseeing any program. Free milk would be on a par with free knitting wool to be dolled out in the next major wool downturn.
