The festival is returning after a successful first year and is directed by Geoffrey Smith.
Mr Smith has been a filmmaker for 29 years and won two Emmy awards along with a host of other international prizes.
His film, Presumed Guilty, will open the festival on Friday, August 27 at 7pm.
It follows the story of two young lawyers working to free a Mexican who was condemned for a crime he didn’t commit.
A Q&A session with Mr Smith and former Police CHief Commissioner Christine Nixon will follow the screening.
The festival will also feature BAFTA-winning documentary Divorce Iranian Style and Academy Award-winning film My Architect on August 27.
The Castlemaine Documentary Film Festival is on August 26-28.
