Series winner Syd Anstee, runner-up Jarrod Butler and fourth placegetter Todd Schintler were among the competitors racing around at Thursday night’s track season opener at the Tom Flood Sports Centre.
Although in their 40s, Anstee and Butler roared to great success in the Bendigo and District Cycling Club’s road classics.
Consistency was a key as Anstee achieved a top 10 placing in five of the seven rounds to be a runaway winner on 32 points.
Runner-up was Sheridan Hall, runner-up at Rochester and third at Inglewood, on 19.
Victory at Inglewood and fourth at Rochester put 43-year-old Butler, who contested his first road season, in third place on 19 points, while Schintler, the Wedderburn classic winner, was next on 17 points.
Watching 10-year-old son Blade racing on the track for the first time last summer sparked Butler’s decision to race track and road
“It’s a lot of fun,” Butler said.
