Hookin2Hockey is Australia's national recruitment program, providing a environment where boys and girls aged 5 to 12 can learn basic skills and improve their ability to work as part of a team.
A five-week program will hit-off at Hockey Central Vic's Ashley Street complex, starting next Tuesday at 5pm.
Committee member Katrina Bales said it anticipated Hook in2 Hockey would introduce new players to a game that provided children with the opportunity to learn basic hockey skills in the hope of finding the next Australian hockey star such as Jamie Dwyer of the Kookaburras.
"We aim to create a lifelong love of an iconic Olympic sport beginning in a local association environment," she said.
"Hin2H will provide participants with a dream that one day they can represent Australia at the highest level of all, the Olympic Games.
“Hockey Central Vic will endeavor to teach the basic skills – pushing, receiving and dribbling - that could take participants to the Olympics are learned in this program through modified drills and games.
“None of the skills taught require the hockey stick to be raised above knee height. This means players are safe throughout the program.”
Program participants will receive a program pack which includes: a hockey stick, hockey top, mouth guard, shin pads and ball.
Program cost is $65.
