The Roos had 37 scoring shots to 10, but as has been their tendency this season, they were plagued by inaccuracy in their 13.24 (102) to 6.4 (40) victory at home.

The Roos – who had Dylan Klemm make his senior debut – now have nine victories for the season and their destiny in their own hands.

“We did what we needed to do, which was get the win against a Maryborough side that was competitive all day,” Roos coach Jason Stevens said.

“From our point of view, to have 37 scoring shots to 10 shows we were fairly dominant with the ball in our forward 50 for most of the game.

“Overall, there were some good team signs today that we’ll look to build on and carry forward.”

The two standout players for the Roos were midfielders Mitch Hough (two goals) and Shannon Broadbent, while fellow onballer Corey Greer also figured among the best.

Rhys Healey and Marty Kelly kicked three goals each for Kangaroo Flat.

The Magpies kicked five goals in the second half after having just one on the board at the main break.

Maryborough has kicked 14 goals in its past two games – 13 of which have come after half-time.

While it was another defeat for the winless Magpies, it was the fifth game in a row they have reduced their losing margin, starting from 207 points against Golden Square in round nine to 193, 192, 129, 86 and now 62.

Ethan Crackel, Kirk Looby and James Macer were named best for the Magpies.
