Axedale Our Town Our Future president Yvonne Wrigglesworth said the community group had commissioned a stonemason to craft a momentum “in keeping with the uniqueness of Axedale.”
“We’re the home of bluestone in central Victoria,” Ms Wrigglesworth said. “So we’ve commissioned a local stonemason to craft a bluestone boulder.”
The group lodged a planning application with the City of Greater Bendigo after receiving a $5000 grant from the Strathfieldsaye and Districts Community Enterprise and $4000 from the federal government.
It will also launch a campaign Monday as part of The Big Give to turf and irrigate the Axedale Park in which the monument will be built.
“We had more than 400 people at the Christmas carols stomping around in dust,” Ms Wrigglesworth said. “So we’re hoping people will dig deep for a carpet of nice grass.”
