Bendigo’s Glenn Warfe is heading to Rio de Janeiro for his third Olympic Games, but this time around he won’t be an athlete.

Warfe competed in the badminton men’s doubles at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and London Olympics in 2012.
The 32-year-old won’t be playing in Rio, he’s been appointed coach of the Australian squad for the Games. After calling time on his international career, Warfe is now the Badminton Australian junior development manager.
Warfe will mentor an Australian squad of five players – Leanne Choo, Robin Middleton, Sawan Serasinghe, Matt Chau and Hsuan Yu Wendy Chen.
Choo and Middleton will play in the mixed doubles, Serasinghe and Chau will compete in the men’s doubles and Yu Wendy Chen is in the women’s singles.
The badminton competition at the Rio Games commences on August 11 and will run through to August 20.
Warfe is one of three central Victorians at the Rio Games.
Eaglehawk cycling star Glenn O’Shea will compete in the omium, while Maryborough’s Matthew Dellavedova is a key member of the Australian men’s basketball team.
O’Shea is completing his preparations for Rio with the Australian men’s track cycling endurance team in Mexico.
O’Shea claimed a silver medal in the team pursuit at the London Olympics and finished fifth in the omnium.
The omnium involves a medley event involving a flying lap (250m time trial), points race (30km), individual pursuit (4km), scratch race (15km), kilometre time trial and an elimination race where every two laps the last rider over the line is eliminated.
The omnium is O’Shea’s pet event, having won the world championship on home soil in Melbourne in 2012.
Dellavedova and the Aussie Boomers scored a confidence-boosting 84-83 win over world number four Argentina in a an Olympic warm-up game in Buenos Aires on Wednesday morning (AEST).
Dellavedova had seven points and seven assists, including a clutch basket in the final minute, to help guide the Boomers to victory.
Three-time Olympian David Andersen led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Brock Motum added 14 points and NBA star Patty Mills had 13 points and four assists.
The Boomers next travel to Sao Paulo to play host nation and world No.9 Brazil on Friday morning (AEST), before facing Lithuania two days later.
The Boomers open their Olympic campaign against France on August 6.
