It was the first city success for the Rod Symons-trained mare and it took her career record to six wins and eight placings from 41 starts.
Ridden by apprentice hoop Ben Thompson, Savannah Moon took up an accustomed role of leading the field in the 1800m event.
The move paid off as Savannah Moon, with just 52 kilograms on her back, outstayed her rivals on the soft seven track.
The daughter of Savabeel ran in last year’s Jayco Bendigo Cup (2400m), but her pet distances could be 1600m-2000m.
Three of her six career wins have been over 1600-1800m.
She also thrives on soft tracks, with four wins and three placings on wet surfaces.
With Melbourne’s wet winter continuing, Savannah Moon is likely to be set for another city race in the next three weeks.
