The Storm won 21.15 (141) to 8.7 (55), but it was a vastly improved effort from the Magpies on their recent outings against the big guns of the BFNL.
“Maryborough had a real crack, especially in the second half. We were happy to get through the game and get a win without any injuries,” Storm co-coach Darryl Wilson said.
Kallen Geary did his Michelsen Medal chances no harm with another dominant on-ball performance, while fellow midfielder Jake Moorhead was also prominent for the Storm.
Sean Johns (five), Jake Hall (four) and captain Shannon Geary (four) in his 100th game for the Storm combined for 13 goals.
After its goalless first half, Maryborough kicked eight in the second.
Matt Johnston (two goals) and forward Andrew Siekai (three goals) were the best for the Magpies.
