Now - can we please have similar periodical displays at this prime site to publicise Bendigo’s significant events and industries, for which the city is so proud.
Like Marilyn, such displays would attract tourists, enhance the local economy and also remind us locals of the significance of the subject on show.
Some suggestions:
Future art gallery exhibitions, special presentations at the showgrounds eg swap meet, annual show, sheep and cattle shows, Easter celebrations etc.
Local agriculture and horticulture - so important to Bendigo and Australia. Perhaps place appropriate machinery and/or products on show.
City based industries - again show off examples of machinery and products produced eg Thales “Hawkei” vehicle.
A further suggestion, for touch-free displays, if possible install a permanent hydraulic post, with a strong top-plate, to anchor the exhibits on high (perhaps a job for McCullochs?); also possibly a slow moving turntable to add to the attraction (perhaps Turntables P/L may help?).

Legal system to blame for increase in baseball bat protection
I think the so called “legal system” is to blame for people arming themselves with baseball bats for protection.
The police arrest these thugs over and over again, only to see them released on bail over and over again.
The term “justice is blind” has a whole new meaning thanks to these out of touch magistrates.

Animal activists unite for chickens
In reference to the article in the Bendigo Advertiser, "Protesters rally at hatchery,"July 21, where 100 animal activists from across Australia rallied against the slaughter of unwanted male chicks in the egg industry.
It is sadly common practice in Australia and worldwide to destroy millions of male chicks every day, by grinding them in macerators, gassing or suffocation.
All chickens used for meat or eggs are the result of centuries of human domination, and decades of invasive genetic manipulations.
Forcing hens to lay as many as 300 eggs per year, when their early ancestors laid only twice a year in spring, in order to hatch their young.
The calcium carbonate to make the egg shells comes from the hens' bones, making modern chickens subject to painful osteoporosis and bone fractures, before they are slaughtered at 18 months of age, when their forced egg production wanes.
And yet we have absolutely no biological reason to consume eggs.
Kinder egg alternatives are plentiful and are listed on the net.
We can stop supporting this violently exploitative industry.

Trade unions increasingly irrelevant
"No-one can serve two masters", to quote a religious text.
In the case of Bill Shorten, he cannot be relied upon to serve the Australian people, as a whole, when his party is largely funded by a single interest group, the trade union movement, which now represents less than 18 per cent of the Australian workforce.
Trade unions are Labor's banker and puppet master.
And increasingly irrelevant in the 21st century.
