Banjo’s Bakery Cafe in Hargreaves Mall was evicted several weeks ago after owing nearly $20,000 to its landlord, the Commonwealth Bank.
The Hobart-based bakery chain has more than 40 franchises in the Apple Isle and up the east coast of the mainland.
But its presence in the Garden State has been reduced to two outlets with the forced closure of its Bendigo store.
A public notice pasted on the front door of the now-vacant Shop 2, 307 Hargreaves Mall says the bank repossessed the premises after its tenant failed to comply with its obligations.
The notice outlines the breach of obligation under the lease and the bank's power to re-enter the premises, which it owns.
“The tenant has failed to pay rent in accordance with the lease in the sum of $19,580.31,” the sign reads.
“Take notice that the landlord requires the tenant to quit and deliver up possession of the premises forthwith.”
Banjos Corporation headquarters was contacted for comment for this article and did not respond. The Commonwealth Bank declined to comment for this article.
