Board game Bendigopoly was created by Bendigo TAFE graphic design students and features Councillor Fyffe alongside iconic Bendigo landmarks, such as the talking tram and Alexandra Fountain.
First-year graphic design student Luke Denys paid homage to his former teacher, Cr Fyffe, by including him as a character.
“He was a teacher of mine and hilarious to be around. Even though he taught me math, he would always encourage me to keep drawing,” he said.
Cr Fyffe said the game was a tribute to the creativity and originality of Mr Denys and his cohort.
Cr Fyffe said he hoped the game would soon find its way into Bendigo homes.
“If people would like to make a contribution to get it commercially up-and-running, I think that would be terrific,” he said.
“I would be willing to help them as well.”
Bendigo TAFE graphic design teacher Melissa Voderberg said the students had spent more than 100 hours developing and creating three different versions of the board game, based on the ever-popular game Monopoly.
“The students have really grabbed onto this project and run with it. They’ve challenged each other to create some amazing work. The Bendigo community will really enjoy playing the games based on their own neighbourhoods and familiar icons.”
Student Maddy Maud said her group looked to Bendigo’s automotive culture for inspiration.
“We based our game design on a Bendigo speedway. We all love car racing and V8 racing and thought it would be fun to have a game where you race each other through Bendigo.”
To coincide with the game’s release, a group of students will be handing out Bendigopoly money in Pall Mall tomorrow at noon.
A charity event will also be held on Saturday at Bendigo TAFE city campus library from 10am to 4pm.
The community is invited to come along and play the board games. Entry is via gold coin donation. All money raised will be donated to St Luke’s.
