CFA and police were called to the scene just after 3am.
Firefighters arrived to find a neighbour attempting to put the fire out with a garden hose. The witness told police he had been woken by passing motorists and got up to find the car ablaze.
A CFA spokeswoman said the fire was extinguished and declared under control within 15 minutes. There were no injuries reported.
Acting Sergeant Robert Walsh said the car was believed to be disused. He said the car had been parked in the carport for about 12 months and had no engine or gear box.
"It was a wreck of a car, already," he said.
Acting Sergeant Walsh said police would continue to investigate motives surrounding the fire. He urged anyone that may have seen anything suspicious between 2.45am and 3.00am on High Street to contact Bendigo Police.
