To make your vote count, once you receive your City of Greater Bendigo ballot paper, all you have to do is number the candidates in your order of preference.
All boxes must be marked with a number or the vote won’t be counted.
Your vote must then be posted back to the VEC returning officer by 6pm on Friday, October 26.
The votes are then calculated according to a VEC formula which requires a candidate to get a certain amount of votes to win, basically based on the number of formal votes divided by the number of ward vacancies.
Once a candidate has received enough votes, their surplus votes go to the person they have preferenced second.
This continues until three candidates have enough votes to be declared the new councillors.
