Step into Life Bendigo franchisee Michael Talbot said the commercial fitness operator policy adopted by the City of Greater Bendigo this week would separate the professionals from the amateurs.
“I’ve definitely seen a surge in operators over the last four or five years,” he said.
“There’s a lot of people getting cert IIIs and IVs in training and its hard to find employment in the industry so a lot are becoming self-employed.
“With our growth in popularity and the and the growth in the fitness industry – particularly over last two years – I do think it’s fair to look at regulating it.”
The personal trainer said he was concerned some rogue operators were “tarring everyone with the same brush”.
“The ratepayers are paying to keep their parks in pristine conditions and if they do see people dragging tyres through the mud I could understand if they got a bit grumpy,” he said.
