MATTHEW Dellavedova says he won't let fears over the Zika virus stop him chasing gold with the Boomers at the Rio Olympics.

The NBA championship-winning point guard came home to Melbourne on Wednesday and said the Boomers remained focused on winning their first Olympic medal despite a number of US and international colleagues dropping out of the Games.

"I'm 100 per cent committed to Rio," Maryborough born and bred Dellavedova said.

Several big stars have decided not to attend the Rio Olympics because of fears over the Zika virus prevalent in Brazil, but Dellavedova declared:  "I'll be going regardless."

The Cleveland Cavaliers player said that watching fellow Australian Andrew Bogut go down with a knee injury during the NBA Finals had hit his hopes for the team hard, but he was heartened to see Bogut putting all his efforts into recovery in the hope of being fit for Rio.

While the odds may be against Bogut, who suffered in bone bruises to the proximal tibia and distal femur, Dellavedova believed there was still a slim chance.

he Cleveland Cavaliers beat Bogut's Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, so Dellavedova was watching as Bogut landed awkwardly and grabbed for his knee after blocking a shot.

Fellow NBA guard Dante Exum has already been ruled out due to injury and rookie forward Ben Simmons is also out, preferring to focus on his first NBA season.

"If those guys aren't in the side we are going to miss them, but the expectations are still the same," Dellavedova said.

"We've been talking about it for a long time – we still believe we can get the job done.

"When I saw him go down that's the first thing I thought, 'Rio'.

"And I know from talking to Bruce Kaider (Bogut's agent) that Andrew's doing all he can to give himself a slim hope, because he wants to be there with us.

"He'd have to have a miraculous recovery, so we'll see how he goes, but we would love to see him a part of the squad.

"It was awesome having him a part of the squad last year. Rather than being hit with his screens, he was getting us open."

After playing in the London Olympics, Dellavedova said he valued playing for Australia above even his NBA career.

The Boomers will enter their last selection camp next week in Melbourne and will play two farewell games against a US college all-star team at Hisense Arena on July 12 and July 14.
