Trains were earlier suspended between Mordialloc and Frankston after a person was hit by a train.
According to the Metro Trains website, buses have replaced trains between Caulfield and Frankston, increasing journey times by up to 45 minutes.
Buses had already replaced trains between Caulfield and Moorabbin stations because of the North McKinnon Centre Level Crossing Removal Project.
Due to maintenance work, buses are replacing trains from Caulfield all the way to Frankston from 8pm on Monday.
Some passengers have been advised to use buses 708 (Mordialloc-Carrum) and 780 (Carrum-Frankston).
