Kangaroo Flat’s 11.13 (79) to 5.5 (35) win over Strathfieldsaye gave the Roos a one-game lead over the Storm in second place on the ladder.
Brodie Fry kicked six of the Roos’ 11 goals, while Nathan McHugh was their best player. Angus White and Billy Quirk were best for the Storm.
Golden Square rallied from a 12-point deficit at half-time to defeat South Bendigo by 11 points. The Dogs kicked three goals to one in the final quarter to win 6.10 (46) to 4.11 (35).
Zack Shelton and Jordan Anderson played well for Square, while Jarrett Miles kicked two goals and was the Bloods’ best player.
Sandhurst Marist Dockers remain undefeated after belting Kyneton by 100 points.
Peter Coghlan and Sean O’Farrell stood out for the Dockers. Ben David and Jackson Szendrodi impressed on a tough day for the Tigers.
In the under-14 seniors division, Tom Martin kicked eight goals in a best on ground performance in South Bendigo’s 42-point win over Kangaroo Flat. Lachy Wilson was best for the Roos.
Sandhurst moved into second place after defeating White Hills 9.14 (68) to 5.4 (34).
Lachlan O’Brien and Tom Hartley played well for the Dragons, while Braydn Murley and Patrick Crawford were best for the Demons.
Top team Golden Square defeated Eaglehawk by 129 points. Zavier Murley (six goals), Jack Hickman (four) and Jack Stewart (three) were in form for the Bulldogs. Eaglehawk’s best were Corey Webb and Jordan Hynes.
The highlight of the under-12A division was St Therese’s thrilling two-point win over Golden Square.
St Therese’s led for much of the second half, before holding on to win 5.3 (33) to 5.1 (31). Baxter Graham and Jacob Nihill starred for St Therese’s, while Hugh Freckleton and Zack Tickell tried for the Dogs.
In other games, Strathfieldsaye edged out Eaglehawk by five points and top team Kyneton defeated Castlemaine by 46 points.
Two of the youth girls division matches were lopsided. Castlemaine kicked 7.8 (50) to Kangaroo Flat’s no score, while Eaglehawk kicked 9.7 (61) to North Bendigo’s 1.0 (6).
In the closest game of the round, Huntly defeated Golden Square 1.2 (8) to 0.2 (2) in a low-scoring slog.
