Leading Senior Constable Koby Buchan said a car driving towards Bendigo, near Harcourt, hit some icy road conditions about 5.15pm.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, which ended up on the median strip.
A second motorist stopped in the left emergency lane to help.
A third motorist crashed into the parked car after hitting the same ice patch as the first vehicle.
Leading Senior Constable Buchan said nobody was injured, but all three vehicles had to be towed.
The highway was briefly closed to allow the tow truck access to the car in the median strip.
It was reduced to a single lane while the accident was being cleared.
“It looked like snow had fallen, which was probably unusual,” Leading Senior Constable Buchan said.
She urged people to drive to conditions, especially in the icy cold weather.
“If it’s looking wet and icy, people need to slow down,” she said.
“And when you see emergency services, please slow down.”
Four police units and two tankers from Harcourt CFA were at the scene, yet Leading Senior Constable Buchan said some motorists still sped past at 110 kilometres an hour.
“Quite a few other people stopped to help,” she said.
