Christian radio station Life FM is in the middle of an on-air appeal to raise funds for general maintenance, equipment upgrades and licencing fees.
They are partnering with Feed the Hungry, who have a donor willing to match every $100 donation to the station’s upkeep with food relief for South Sudanese refugees stranded in Ugandan refugee camps.
Life FM general manager Gaelle Broad said camps had swelled as South Sudan lurched between brittle peace and civil war. About 80 per cent of those displaced this year were women and children.
Mrs Broad said listeners had dug deep and already raised $15,315 for station. But this was still short of the total target of $30,000.
“(On Friday) morning I sang on air, which was a bit humiliating. But a caller said if I sang on air we’d get $2000.”
She said the station had a focus on community and family, reflected in the generous donations from mums, dads and the elderly.
The appeal will continue until the end of the month. To donate, visit ww.life1051.org.au or tune in to 105.1 FM.
