In an ominous sign for their premiership rivals, the Bombers have beaten two of the HDFNL's top three teams in as many weeks.
A narrow two-goal win against North Bendigo was followed by an impressive four goal victory over reigning premiers Colbinabbin.
The Bombers dropped their opening two games of the season against last year's grand finalists by one goal and eight goals respectively.
Lake said there was no single factor which had contributed to the improvement.
"We've had a bit of a change-up in key positions and its seems to be working in our favour," she said.
"The girls have worked really hard together and all the little things are starting to fall into place.
"It's exciting. It's definitely been a team effort - there was no one (against Colbinabbin) who stood out per se, it was just a simple team effort. Everyone is putting in 110 per cent.
"The defence end is starting to gel real well and the attack end is doing what it needs - everything seems to be clicking at the right time."
The Bombers face sixth-placed Lockington-Bamawm United on Saturday, ahead of another top four clash against top side White Hills.
The July 2 clash against the Demons will be the Bombers' last against a team currently ranked above them of the ladder until the start of finals.
Lake said the wins over Colbinabbin and North Bendigo had built plenty of belief within the playing group.
"We knew that we had a good side, but it's just starting to show through now," she said.
"Those wins over the quality sides can do wonders.
"You want to be hitting your straps at the business end of the season. We've put those early losses behind us and we feel it's all coming together."
Meanwhile, Huntly faces a giant test against league leaders White Hills at Trickey's Diesel Oval.
The Hawks (5-5) have put some space between themselves and Lockington-Bamawm United and Mount Peasant (both 3-7) in fifth place and could almost seal a finals' berth with a win against the Demons.
That will be easier said than done against a Demons team that has lost just one game this season and mauled Mount Pleasant by 42 goals last week.
In other games this weekend, Heathcote hosts a rebounding Colbinabbin, and Elmore plays North Bendigo.
Mount Pleasant has the bye.
