The seductive sound of paint draws you into the darkened space of Gallery Two at the La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre, where you will find South East Park Proposition, a video of artist Ash Keating in the thrust of performative painting. This is the latest installment in Keating’s Urban Boundary Propositions, a series of public interventions in which the overall-clad artist sprays the walls of tilt-slab industrial buildings.

Exhibition curator Michael Brennan notes in his catalogue essay; “…it is the sound that makes the initial impression. First there’s the environment – birds and wind and just maybe the distant rumble of traffic. Then comes the paint. It’s fat and flat and smacks with a slap. Liquid against concrete. Fluid against the immovable. Although this is painting it is taken in aurally as much as with the eyes.”
South East Park Proposition can be seen at the VAC until July 17.
