This exhibition presents a once in a lifetime opportunity for Marilyn fans to see original film costumes, personal clothing and authentic objects worn, or owned by, one of the most celebrated actors of the 20th century.
Curated by Bendigo Art Gallery, the exhibition will not be seen anywhere else in the world and has been attracting visitors from across Australia.
The definitive truth about the life, loves and personal motivations of Marilyn Monroe will perhaps never be revealed.
Viewing the films in which she starred and having her private and public clothing and her treasured ephemera available allows a more refined and nuanced assessment of this much- celebrated, albeit enigmatic, woman.
In some areas of her life Marilyn was ahead of her time – she was a liberated and successful businesswoman who established her own production company well before the rest of Hollywood adopted the practice.
The exhibition will not be seen anywhere else in the world and has been attracting visitors from across Australia.

In relation to perhaps the most celebrated aspect of Marilyn’s persona – her magnificent gowns – the contrast between her public and private wardrobes affords the opportunity to recognise the difference between the very public Marilyn Monroe and the private young woman who was once Norma Jeane Baker.
Marilyn’s personal effects show us a woman who, despite her enormous Hollywood success, shied away from flashy celebrity fashion in her private life, choosing instead a more classic and understated style.
Marilyn Monroe will undoubtedly continue to fascinate and intrigue for many years to come.
The exhibition has been extraordinarily popular and we are urging visitors to book tickets online prior to visiting the gallery.
In the final weeks of the exhibition, the gallery is presenting a number of programs to complement the exhibition:
