Two consecutive rounds of five-over 77 to start the event at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course had Mueck precariously placed to make the weekend.
But strong winds meant only two players finished below par after two rounds and Mueck’s 10-over was on the cut – one of the highest-ever on the Australasian PGA Tour.
In better conditions on the weekend, Mueck shot a one-under 71 in the third round before leading the field on the final day yesterday with a stunning seven-under 65.
Opening his round with a par on the 10th, Mueck then eagled the par-five 11th hole, but bogeyed the next.
It was his only blemish for the day, though, as he rattled off six birdies in the final 10 holes to move into the top 10. Mueck finished on two-over for the tournament, seven shots behind the winner Peter Wilson.
Wilson aside, only two other players finished below par.
Mueck and fellow central Victorian golfers Andrew Martin and Heath Reed will tee-off in the Australasian and European Tour co-sanctioned US$2 million Perth International beginning at Lake Karrinyup Country Club on Thursday.
