Artists included Ross Lougoon from Connor Park Winery, Glenn Riley from Riley’s Electrical, radio presenters Beck Chalmer and Al Shields and Bendigo Advertiser editor Rod Case, many of whom had picked up a paint brush for the first time to raise money for the not-for-profit organisation.
More than 300 people attended the event to show their support and place a bid.
The proceeds will be tallied and go towards helping the region’s blind and severely vision-impaired people.
Vision Australia Bendigo team manager Ruth O’Connell said the highest-selling title was a toss-up between Mr Lougoon and Mr Case, whose artworks sold for about $1200 each.
“They had a fierce rivalry going on,” she joked. Ms O’Connell said she was impressed with the calibre of artwork presented on the night, and that the exercise had uncovered a number of hidden talents.
“One of the things that really came out of the night was that people who have never made art before found it really enjoyable and will look to do it again.”
