His current exhibition at the La Trobe University VAC presents visitors with an insight into the diversity of his practice. Speaking at the exhibition launch, curator Michael Brennan noted that the "...exhibition allows us to think about paint and painting in the broadest possible sense; it is about painting and how we can stretch it in a very contemporary way."
There’s a gentleness to his large meditative works on canvas that may at first seem at odds with the vigorous spattering of paint in his public works. However, both aspects of Keating's practice create a space in which we might consider our complex relationship with the environment.
