The Magpies have many of their premiership-winning stars back for the 2012-13 campaign.
East achieved a hat-trick of division one titles when it beat Eaglehawk by eight shots in last summer’s decider at Golden Square.
A formidale East line-up includes skippers Brad Holland, Darren Burgess and Aaron Tomkins.
It’s a new-look Bendigo which will be aiming to upset the Pies on the Lansell Street greens.
Bendigo has experienced skippers Ian Ross and Tori Babitsch playing on, while Brian Mansbridge, previously with Strathfieldsaye, is one of several recruits at the Barnard Street-based club.
Runner-up the past three seasons, Eaglehawk takes on Golden Square in the opening round on the Borough’s turf in Simpsons Road.
The Hawks have recruited Simon Carter from Kangaroo Flat to be a skipper, while Phil Godkin is one of the competition’s best bowlers.
Golden Square’s skippers include Barry Anset and Tas Wallis.
Inglewood starts its season at Castlemaine. It will be a daunting task for the visitors against a Castlemaine line-up which includes skippers Tony Olsson and Greg Brain.
After a disastrous run in 2011-12, Strathfieldsaye will be determined to start well and capitalise on home-green advantage against Kangaroo Flat.
Skippers for Strathfieldsaye include Geoff Dixon and Trevor Featherstone.
Kangaroo Flat’s skippers include father and son, John and Dean Carter aiming to start the season with a victory.
