BENDIGO Cricket Club’s full-time transition to being based at North Bendigo’s Atkins Street Oval moved a step closer this week with funding for new cricket nets.

The new nets at North Bendigo will be jointly funded through $100,000 from the state government as part of its Community Sports Infrastructure Grant and $155,000 from the City of Greater Bendigo, while the Goers will contribute $20,000 to the project.
The Goers have played home games at North Bendigo since 2010-11 after they left their long-time base at the QEO.
However, while playing at North Bendigo, the Goers’ training facilities have been at Garden Gully Reserve.
The Goers are anticipating a possible completion date of the project mid next year.
“This funding will see the construction of a five-net synthetic multipurpose facility, which will include netting that can be drawn back to create one large training area,” City of Greater Bendigo mayor Rod Fyffe said.
Added member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards: “We promised the Bendigo Cricket Club community the great sporting facilities it deserves, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.”
Meanwhile, the Goers are holding their annual general meeting this Sunday at the Queens Arms from noon.
Among the changes will be Tony Fitzpatrick stepping down after 14 years as president, with his likely replacement to be Andrew Gibbs.
