McKinnon, who grew up in Kyneton and went to school in Bendigo, was recruited to Team Delta after performing Matt Corby’s Resolution at his blind audition.
“Matt Corby has always been a favourite artist, I love his music,” he said.
McKinnon said he had no idea there were only two spots left to be filled when he stepped out on stage.
“We knew it was getting quite full because we were all wondering about it at the end of the day,” he said.
“(When the chair turned) I was just in the moment and had blocked everything out.”
After the audition there was little time for McKinnon to celebrate.
“We watched over auditions, which is scary and Delta pairs you for the battles and tells you your songs,” he said.
“I’d love to win it but it’s a long, long road. The fact I’m in is just incredible, so I’ll be happy to go as far as I can.
Andrew McKinnon will perform on The Voice on Sunday, June 5 from 7.30pm.
