The Storm finished 16.15 (111) to 7.7 (49) victors at Flight Centre Park to improve to 5-1.
“As a club we are very happy at the rate our younger players are developing and playing well together,” Curnow said.
“Today the younger players like Matthew Harvey, Fergus Payne, Danny Jones and Jake Moorhead really stood up for us, which was pleasing.”
All four figured among the best players for the Storm – who kicked four goals in each quarter – along with skipper Shannon Geary and Nick Smith.
The loss leaves Gisborne at 0-6, but coach Brad Spear says his young Bulldogs deserved to walk off the ground with their heads held high for the effort they gave against the two-time defending premiers.
“I felt we were competitive right until the end against quality opposition, so I was happy for the boys in that regard,” Spear said.
“And for the first time today there was an even contribution from all the players, which we haven’t had in the past.
“I thought it was a big step forward for the boys, even though it’s not reflected on the scoreboard.”
The best for the Bulldogs was Nicholas Doolan, who continues to impress across half back.
Up forward Jake Conolan kicked four of Gisborne’s seven goals, while versatile skipper Jarrad Lynch also worked hard to set the example for the Bulldogs.
