Athletes fire up at Loddon Mallee schools championships

DESPITE the rain and biting wind, many athletes were in hot form at yesterday’s Loddon Mallee secondary schools track and field championships in Bendigo.

Competitors from as far afield as Mildura, Kyneton, Boort, Echuca, St Arnaud, Bendigo and many places in between competed at the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Flora Hill.

A big program included hurdles, sprints, throws and jumps from 12-13 age group up to 18-20 class.

A place in the School Sport Victoria state championships to be run on October 23 at Melbourne’s Albert Park track was up for grabs.

For many students, a personal best and the honour of representing their school was the highlight of yesterday’s meet.
