OVER the past eight weeks, visitors to the La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre have been drawn into a conversation between a dressmaker and a painter. Gazing at one of the large textural paintings by Robyn Burgess, is a mannequin wearing a dress made by Heather Lyons.

These works are mirrored in the polished bluestone floor and a striking shadow fills the clean white wall behind.
The relationship between Obbligato (the dress) and Spill (the painting) highlights the collaborative process behind the exhibition. One visitor remarked that the works “…speak to each other.”
The Dressmaker and the Painter closes this Sunday, 5pm.
An exhibition by Ryan Villamael is also in its last week. Unknown Land presents locals with a refreshing and perceptive view of their region through the traditional Filipino art form of paper-cutting.
