McKinnon grew up with his parents and sister in Castlemaine. The family moved to Bendigo to pursue his performance dreams.
The 19-year-old already has a wealth of stage experience after successfully auditioning and performing in the Bendigo written and produced stage show Ned: A New Australian Musical last year.
Since finishing high school, Andrew has moved to Melbourne and continues to follow his dream of a performance career.
“I’ve always done musical theatre. I trained in that at school, that’s where I discovered my voice,” he said.
“During year 12 I focused more on my actual voice and music itself.
“I was making music videos for Facebook and people said I should try out.
“I never thought much of it but I had nothing to lose and it was an amazing experience.”
Watch Andrew’s audition for The Voice on the Nine Network at 7.30pm on Monday.
