The Bendigo Inventor Awards will enter a new chapter in its seven-year history as it aims to gain worldwide recognition.
City of Greater Bendigo councillors voted this week to hand over running of the awards to the Bendigo Business Council, locking in more than $250,000 of funding over a four-year transition.
Councillor Barry Lyons said the BIA would benefit from BBC connections.
“As Tamworth is to country music, this will make Bendigo to invention,” Cr Lyons said.
The motion was not without its dissenters, however, with councillor Lisa Ruffell speaking out about locking the next council into the funding agreement and questioning the legitimacy of the BBC as a voice for local business.
