Ratepayers can expect to pay more for waste collection this financial year, despite a drop in most general garbage fees.
This is due to the introduction of the city’s new organic bin service which, under the draft 2016-17 Budget, would cost ratepayers $86.
Ratepayers within the organic waste collection area who use a 120/140-litre general waste bin would see their collection fees drop by $15, from $138 in the last financial year to $123 in 2016-17. Those who use a 240-litre bin would pay $226 this year, down from $238.
Ratepayers outside the organic waste collection area who use a 120/140-litre general waste bin would pay an additional $6 for the service, up to $142. Those with a 240-litre bin would pay $245.
Recycling fees are set to rise by $2 to $66.50.
