The challenge was held on Monday at Girton Grammar School with BSE teams finishing in first and second place.
The year 9 and 10 teams will now head to Warrnambool to compete in the state final.
MONDAY: More than 250 students from all over Bendigo put their science and engineering skills on display at Girton Grammar School yesterday.
The Science and Engineering Challenge put on a range of activities for the students that saw them creating towers out of lightweight materials, building lightweight bridges, constructing transportation vehicles and mastering electronics.
Science and Engineering Challenge team leader Peter Fullager said the activities had underlying concepts in science and engineering.
It has been visiting Bendigo for more than 10 years.
Last year, the challenge involved more than 24,000 students from over 800 schools across Australia.
The activities also encourage students to consider a career in science or engineering.
“We get the students to use the skills they have gathered to date,” Mr Fullager said.
“The year 9 and 10 students have jumped in to activities with a lot of enthusiasm.
“We hope that their output might encourage them to consider careers in those disciplines.”
