The dual premiership star injured his left knee in Saturday’s loss to Golden Square and the club fears he has ruptured his ACL.

“He has to have scans this week, but the likelihood is he’s going to need a knee reconstruction,’’ Strathfieldsaye co-coach Darryl Wilson said.

“He went up for a mark in the third quarter and he landed awkwardly. He felt his knee go pop… unfortunately sometimes things like this happen in footy.”

Sharp, who has had a horror run with injuries in recent years, had made a brilliant start to 2016, kicking 11 goals in two games leading into Saturday’s game against Golden Square.

It continues Strathfieldsaye Storm’s frustrating run of knee injuries. 

The club has had six players undergo knee reconstructions in the past three years.

Sharp’s injury rubbed salt into the Storm’s wounds after their 39-game winning streak was snapped by Golden Square. The Bulldogs won by 24 points.

“Golden Square were very good… they outplayed us,’’ Wilson said.

“We butchered the ball, but bad kicking is bad footy.

“Square played their home ground well and their midfield was excellent.

“We did well to keep Square to 12 goals, but we couldn’t hit the scoreboard. We couldn’t put any pressure on in our forward line.”
