The Roos recorded their biggest win over Gisborne since the Bulldogs joined the BFNL in 2000 with an 85-point belting under lights at Bendigo Mazda Oval – 23.16 (154) to 10.9 (69).
“It was a credit to the boys that they were able to play the footy that we expect them to play,” Kangaroo Flat coach Jason Stevens said.
“Even though they are young, Gisborne is a competitive outfit and were really good around the stoppages and we had to adjust our attitude in the way we were playing to get the score on the board that we did.”
After earlier again starting well to lead by 26 points at quarter-time, the Roos – who improved to 2-1 – were at their most lethal in the third quarter when they piled on 9.4 to 0.1.
Telling for the Roos was their array of goalkickers – they had 10, with Rhys Healey (five), Cameron Rinaldi (four), Tim Brooks (four), Simon Davies (three) and recruit Lance Oswald (two) in his first game for the club all kicking multiples.
Wingman Ryan McNish and ruckman Nick Lang headed the best players for the Roos, whose score of 154 was the highest in their past 60 games.
The loss leaves the young Gisborne – which outscored the Roos 28-22 in the last term – at 0-3.
Thomas Wood and Callan Haynes kicked three goals apiece for the Bulldogs, whose best were Oliver Clough and Eamon McKenna.
