V/Line spokeswoman Catalina Filip said the 1.39pm train from Southern Cross Station to Bendigo was more than 20 minutes late because of a trespasser on the tracks near Albion Station, in metropolitan Melbourne.
“We informed customers about the delay via the V/Line app and website, our dedicated Bendigo line Twitter feed, as well as via SMS and email notifications for those signed up to the Inform service,” Ms Filip said.
She said the train arrived in Bendigo at 3.49pm.
Groovin the Moo attendees have made the most of the rail service, with thousands arriving at Bendigo Railway Station throughout the day.
More than 3900 festival-goers travelled with V/Line last year.
Extra trains were scheduled to meet the expected demand, with two additional services from Southern Cross Station to Bendigo in the morning and three from Bendigo to Southern Cross Station at night.
Prior to the festival, V/Line Regional Manager Jonathan McKeown reminded people to ensure they had enough money on their Myki before travelling.
“Please remember to touch on and touch off before and after each journey to pay the correct fare,” he said.
