7.30pm: Big win coming up for Kangaroo Flat. Roos lead Gisborne 132 to 41 at the final change. Healey 5 goals, Rinaldi and Brooks 4 each.
7.15pm: Newbridge coach Matt Dillon after loss to Inglewood – “We’ve got a group that for some reason is totally devoid of confidence. We’re not working together.
“What cost us today is we were slow out of the blocks and we were four goals down. We fought back well, but when the pressure was on we faltered.”
7pm: White Hills coach Carl Hardingham after the Demons defeated Heathcote by 15 points to win their first game of the season.
“A win always brings a bit of confidence and it’s good to get our first of the season. It gets the monkey off the back.
“Heathcote had a real crack and the numbers were even in contested ball, so it was good to see the boys work through that.
“Today we had 12-14 players who were above par….much better than previous weeks.
Hardingham said big man Matt Sawyer got through his first game for the season in the reserves and is a chance to return to the seniors against Elmore next week.
6.55pm: Elmore coach Alex Gleeson after the Bloods’ win over LBU.
“Our first half was absolutely rubbish.. to the boys credit they responded really well after half-time.
“We moved the ball better, were more predictable to each other, particularly coming out of the backline.
“There were a few blokes that needed to pull their fingers out and they did in the second half.”
Gleeson confirmed that Phil Lobb kicked 5 goals.
6.50pm: Marong coach Damien Lock after the Panthers defeated YCW – “It was a scrappy affair.. I was just happy to get away with the win. To restrict them to no goals in second half was a great effort.
“I had to give the boys a pep up at half-time and they responded really well. We ran the game out well and we’ll get some confidence out of it.
“We’ve got some work to do to get up amongst the big boys, but we’ll keep working away at it.”
6.45pm: North Bendigo coach Rob Bennett after loss to Colbinabbin – “The score flattered us, we were outplayed all day except for a 20-minute period. They ran harder than us and kept their structures.
“Our guys didn’t stick to the game plan we wanted to implement. Colbo players ran hard both ways, we didn’t.”
6.42pm: With thanks to Sam Stagg, it’s half-time at Dower Park. Kangaroo Flat lead Gisborne by 34 points. Healey, Rinaldi and Brooks 3 goals each for the Roos. Wood 3 for Gisborne.
6.40pm: Leicthville-Gunbower coach Matt Hawken after his side thumped Mounts by 122 points.
“We got control of the game in second quarter, but we kicked 3.11. We had 40 inside 50 entries in the first half. In the last quarter we ran the game out well and really put Mounts away.
“Our backline was fantastic today. We felt we defended really well when Mounts had the footy.”
6.30pm: Colbo coach Nick Knight after the Grasshoppers’ upset win over North Bendigo:
“We were a bit patchy in areas….in the end getting the result is very pleasing. In the last quarter we were able to kick a couple of goals in a row and break the game open a bit.
“We can’t get comfortable with where we’re at… we’ve got to keep working hard.”
6.28pm: Flat looking too strong for Gisborne.
6.20pm: Bridgewater coach Marc Lindsay after the Mean Machine kicked 21 goals to one after half-time to beat Serpentine.
“We had plenty of play in first half but couldn’t put them away. We rolled our sleeves up in second half and managed to sharpen up in front of goal.”
Lindsay on next week’s blockbuster against Mitiamo – “we’re looking forward to that one. Miti are going along well… huge game for both clubs.”

Doctor and trainers attending to Price. Play has stopped. Both teams in huddles. Great to see South Bendigo trainers helping out the Sandhurst trainers.
Q2, 3 mins: Sandhurst’s Codie Price appears to have been knocked out while contesting for the ball. No malice in it. 4 players going for ball, all had eyes on the ball and Price was the unlucky one to be collected.
South Bendigo v Sandhurst: the team that shows some composure with the pill through the middle has the chance to break this game open. Dragons look more likely, particularly when Height, Lachlan Ross and Lee Coghlan get their hands on the footy. Kieran Strachan and Liam Bartels good for Bloods in first term.

2.10pm: Conditions on the improve at the QEO. Rain gone, ground slippery but not too bad considering.

2pm: The BFNL inter-league squad was announced on Friday. New coach Brett Fitzpatrick named a squad of 53 players to prepare for the May 21 clash with Gippsland at Warragul.
There’s already talk of a few of the key players in that squad of 53 being unavailable for the game.
From the 53 players named, here’s the 26 players I’d pick for the game against Warragul. I’ve taken VFL-listed players Sam Heavyside and Coby Perry out of the equation and Blair Holmes’ calf injury makes it tough to select him.
