Neighbours noticed the fires at 11.30pm on Wednesday and alerted the resident, who called the fire brigade.
The fires were at the rear corner of the house and burnt alongside the outer wall, causing extensive damage to weatherboards.
Detective Senior Constable Erin Ross said there was a smell of petrol or kerosene near the site of the two fires.
“We call on anyone who may have seen or heard suspicious activity in the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” she said.
