Santamarta has previously been involved with Essendon United as a coaching mentor, while Bendigo City FC has also appointed Alenjandro Garcia as its new conditioning coach.
Bendigo City FC has been led by interim coaches Marco Kueck and Louise McColl since former coach Esteban Quintas quit after round one and returned to Spain.
“We’re very excited with Jose’s appointment. We have taken our time in making sure we went through due process and weren’t prepared to compromise on character or our budget,” Bendigo City FC president Robyn Williams said.
The coaching appointment has been helped by Electricty Wizard coming on board as a new club sponsor.
Bendigo City FC takes on Brunswick City at Brunswick’s Dunstan Reserve from 3pm in round 10 of their National Premier Leagues season on Saturday.
